First Timer or Pro? These Dumpster Tips Make Things Smoother

Whether you’re tackling a home renovation, or cleaning out a garage, , here are some tips to help you make the most of your roll-off dumpster rental:

1. Choose the Right Size

Not sure what size you need? A common mistake is underestimating the amount of debris. Give us a call (925) 510-4784 — we’ll help you pick the right dumpster so you avoid overloading fees or the hassle of a second rental.

2. Know What You Can and Can’t Toss

Avoid extra charges by keeping prohibited items out of the bin. Things like paint, batteries, tires, appliances with refrigerant, and hazardous waste are typically not allowed. We have a more detailed list on our release form here and we can provide one at time of drop off as well.

3. Prepare the Drop-Off Area

Make sure the delivery area is clear of vehicles, low-hanging wires, and obstacles. A flat, hard surface like a driveway or paved lot is ideal. If you’re placing it on the street, check if a permit is needed in your area.

4. Load Evenly and Don’t Overfill

Distribute debris evenly to avoid tipping issues during pickup. Also, keep materials level with the top of the dumpster — we can’t legally haul it away if it’s overflowing.

5. Watch the Weight

Heavy materials add up fast. Let us know what you’re disposing of so we can guide you on how to stay within the weight limit.

6. Don’t Wait Until the Last Minute

Schedule your rental a few days in advance — especially during busy seasons. Need an extension? Just reach out — we’re flexible!

7. Keep the Area Accessible

Make sure nothing blocks access to the dumpster on pickup day. We’ll need a clear path to safely load and haul it away.

8. Protect Your Driveway

Consider placing plywood under the dumpster’s wheels to prevent scratches or damage to concrete or asphalt.

9. Stay Safe

Wear gloves and work boots when handling heavy or sharp debris. Keep kids and pets away from the dumpster while in use.

10. Ask Us Anything!

Not sure if something can go in the dumpster? Just ask. We’re here to help you keep your project running smoothly and safely.
